The Presbyterian College football team and Head Coach Harold Nichols opened the 2011 season with the first day of practice.
Coach Nichols spoke of some positives he took away from the first day of practice, "There was a lot of carryover from the spring with our football team. We are farther ahead football-wise than we have ever been here. There's a lot of continuity on the coaching staff. I think it's going to bear some fruit. I'm excited about the kids, they have a real positive attitude."
"It's easy to be positive this time of year, there's this renewed energy and excitement at the beginning of the year. I think the want-to is there; we've just got to develop some chemistry and some leadership on the football team, but I think we're working towards that."
Coach Nichols was asked if there were any good surprises from the first day, "My hopes were so high with the young guys we signed, I knew how great they were when we recruited them, and I was not disappointed on the first day. A lot of them have come as advertised."
"More importantly, I have really liked how our older guys have taken ownership of our football team and taken pride in it. That'll go along way this season."
"How we mix those two together, the excitement of the young guys we brought in and the maturity and leadership as it develops from our older guys in the next three weeks as we prepare for Wofford, will go along in telling what kind of season we'll have."
The Blue Hose will take to the field in the second day of practice Friday, August 5, at 6:30 p.m.
PC kicks off the season Sept. 3 against Wofford at 1:30 p.m.. Fans can obtain tickets by contacting the ticket office at 864-833-8240 or e-mailing Sherry Medlin at skmedlin@presby.edu.
