Blue Hose Fall Late to Runnin' Bulldogs

Boiling Springs, N.C. – Gardner-Webb used a three-run homer from Alec Burns in the bottom of the ninth to rally past the Presbyterian College baseball team 6-5 on Sunday afternoon at Bill Masters Field. Jeremiah Boyd connected on his fifth homer along with Kyle Decker hitting his first of the season on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
- The Blue Hose got on the board first in the third taking advantage of a Gardner-Webb error to get their first run. 
- Dalton Reeves extended the inning with an RBI single before a Jack Gorman sacrifice fly gave PC a 3-0 advantage after 2.5 innings.
- Kyle Decker connected on a solo homer in the fourth to push the lead to 4-0.
- Gardner-Webb got on the scoreboard in the fifth scoring two runs to cut the Blue Hose lead in half at 4-2.
- Jeremiah Boyd began the eighth inning with a solo home to right field to push PC's advantage to 5-2 after 7.5 innings. 
- The Runnin' Bulldogs got started quickly in the bottom of the ninth with a solo home run to begin the frame and finished off the comeback with a three-run shot to give Gardner-Webb the 6-5 win and sweep the series. 

NOTABLES
- In the second inning, the game was delayed due to lightning in the area. The two teams were kept off the field for 1:51 before resuming just before 4:30 p.m.
- Boyd led the Blue Hose with three hits for his seventh multi-hit game of the season. The senior's eighth-inning home run was his fourth long ball in league play.
- Decker's homer in the fourth was his first of the season and the 14th different player for PC to connect on a homer this season.
- Jay Wetherington recorded his team-high 17th stolen base of the season as he increased his hit streak to seven games in a row.
- The Blue Hose have hit two or more homers in seven games this season.
- Senior Luke Matthews finished one off of a career-high tallying four strikeouts in 4.2 innings.
