Baseball Uses Big Second Inning to Defeat Campbell

Toth Set a DI Single-Game Record with Four Steals

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team used the power of seven-run second to propel the Blue Hose to a 12-8 victory on Saturday afternoon over the host Campbell at Jim Perry Stadium. Brody Fahr led the offense with three RBIs as Jeremiah Boyd and Chris Veach each hit homers in the victory. Eric Toth set a single-game Blue Hose DI record for stolen bases with four on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
- The Blue Hose got the offense kickstarted in the second as Veach connected on his second homer of the series in the second to take a 1-0 lead.
- Jeremiah Boyd kept the offense going in the frame with a two-run shot to push the lead to 3-0.
- Brody Fahr added to the hit parade with a two-run double before a two-run single from Eric Toth gave PC a 7-0 advantage after 1.5 innings.
- Campbell got on the board in the third with an RBI single to push it to 7-1 after three innings.
- Jack Gorman added an RBI groundout in the fourth to push the lead back to seven, 8-1 after 3.5 innings.
- The hosts pushed back in the home half of the fourth with a pair of runs to cut it to 8-3 after four innings.
- In the sixth, Fahr records an RBI triple before a two-run single from Ryan Ouzts gave the Blue Hose the 11-3 lead. 
- Campbell continued to chip away in the sixth with a pair of RBI singles to push it to an 11-5 game after six frames.
- The hosts continued to push back in the seventh with a two-run homer to make it 11-7 after seven innings. 
- Gorman added an RBI single in the eighth to push the advantage back out to five, 12-7. 
- The Fighting Camels added a solo homer in the eighth to creep closer at 12-8 after eight innings.
- Campbell loaded the bases in the ninth before Toth needed just two pitches to record the save and give PC the 12-8 win on Saturday afternoon. 
 
NOTABLES
- Fahr, Gorman, and Toth each tallied two hits in the game to pace the Blue Hose offense. Fahr and Gorman now are tied for the team lead with eight multi-hit games as Toth has six on the year.
- Veach connected on his second homer in as many games to open the Blue Hose scoring.
- Boyd now has recorded a homer in each of Presbyterian's first two league series with his second-inning blast. He recorded one last Saturday against USC Upstate as well. He also leads the team on the year with three homers.
- Fahr tied a career-high with his team-leading three runs knocked in. He also tallied his first career triple in the sixth inning.
- Ouzts recorded his second multi-RBI performance of the season as he entered as a pinch hitter and tallied a two-run single in the sixth. 
- Toth with his four stolen bases set the DI single-game record for the Blue Hose with those steals. He recorded the first career multi-steal game of his career. 
- Duncan Howard continued to rack up the strikeouts throughout the 2022 season with six strikeouts in his sixth start of the year. He's had at least six strikeouts in his last five starts.
- With his save, Toth now ties Gabe Grammer for second in the Blue Hose DI record book with 11 career saves after he earned his team-high third save on Saturday.
- PC was one-off its season-high in runs when the Blue Hose scored 13 against Georgia State on March 13.

 - PC and Campbell are set to battle at 1 p.m. on Sunday as both teams look to clinch the series on Sunday afternoon.
