Jason Childs is entering his fifth season as the head men’s lacrosse coach at Presbyterian College.

During the 2009 campaign, Childs led the team to its first-ever win over a Division I program with a 15-12 come-from-behind victory over Detroit Mercy in front of the largest home crowd of the season.

A native of Baltimore, Md., Childs came to the Blue Hose from nearby Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C. During his tenure with the Saints, he served as the assistant coach, helping lead the program to a two-year mark of 24-2, the 2004 Deep South Conference title, and a runner-up finish for the NCAA Division II National Championship in 2004 and 2005. He also served as the school’s men’s and women’s cross country coach during the 2004 fall season.

Presbyterian College announced its plans to add men’s and women’s lacrosse to its athletic program beginning with the 2004-05 academic year on November 14, 2003. The men’s team competed at the club level during the 2004-05 season. Childs took over the development of the institution’s first men’s lacrosse program after replacing Pat Lynch who resigned on March 9, 2005. Childs guided the Blue Hose in their inaugural NCAA season, leading PC to their first ever collegiate win over Manhattanville College. The team would go on to win their first ever Deep South Conference game also that season defeating Lees-McRae College.

Childs arrived at Limestone by way of the Darlington School (Rome, Ga.), where he served as the offensive coordinator for the lacrosse team from 2001-2003. While at Darlington, Childs taught American and British Literature and served as a Resident Faculty Member. He also gained valuable experience as an assistant coach for the basketball and middle school football teams.

A 2001 graduate of Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa, Childs received a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies, while performing as a four-year starter at attack and midfield for the Red Devil lacrosse team. He was a two-time team captain and won the Unsung Hero Award in 1999. Childs set a school and Centennial Conference record for assists in a game with 11 and posted the second-best single-game scoring performance with 12 points on one goal and 11 assists on March 22, 2000, versus Susquehanna University. He also ranks fourth in career assists with 64 and eighth in all-time scoring at Dickinson with 108 points on 44 goals and 64 assists.

Before entering Dickinson, Childs graduated from St. Paul’s School for Boys in Baltimore, where he played varsity soccer, basketball, and lacrosse.

His younger brother, Brandon, was named the head men’s lacrosse coach at Eastern University in the summer of 2008 after serving as an assistant coach at Dickinson College, the Alma Mata of Childs.

Childs is married to the former Mary Foss from Rome, Ga. The couple welcomed their daughter, Elizabeth Ann, on Aug. 10, 2006, and most recently their son, Jackson Lee on September 4, 2008. The Childs family resides in Clinton, S.C. with their dog Wally.
