Filling up the net


The Blue Hose are averaging a program-best (D1 era) 2.25 goals, 1.12 assists, 5.62 points and 14.62 shots per game. Their 18 goals in 2018 is tied for fourth most during the Division I era. The program-best is 30 goals (1.67 per game) from 2015.


Big South Honors


Sophomore Morgan Hutchison was named the “Attacking Player of the Week” on Sept. 10 after the Athens, Tenn., native scored three goals, including a both game-winners, against SC State and Wofford.


Senior Kelsey Yeager received “Attacking Player of the Week” honors in back-to-back weeks after scoring a personal-best five goals over the first four games of the season. The Blue Hose are 3-0 when Yeager scores a goal this season.


Freshman Megan Serrano was named “Freshman of the Week” on August 27 after back-to-back six-save efforts and picking up her first collegiate win over The Citadel on August 26.




The Blue Hose won five consecutive games, from August 26 – September 9, for the first time since going 6-0 to start the 2003 season. Over their five-game win streak, PC outscored their opponents 16-5 and had 10 different players record a point.


Scoring In Bunches


The Blue Hose have scored two or more consecutive goals in five of their eight games this season. PC scored four against SC State (9/4), three against The Citadel (8/26), Alabama State (8/31) and Wofford (9/9), and recorded a pair of late, unanswered goals against Mercer (9/2).


Scoring Breakdown


Eight different Blue Hose have scored a goal in 2018, while two more have recorded assists. Kelsey Yeager leads the team with a personal-best 10 points on five goals and two game winners. Morgan Hutchison is close behind with eight points (4G) and two game winners. Megan Archer (2G) has the team’s other game winner. Preston Robinette (2G, 3A), Mallory Hopkins (2G, 2A), Peyton Patterson, (1G, 1A), Sam Britt (1G), Taylor Coleman (1A) and Isabelle Russell (1A) have also recorded points.


Scouting the Bulldogs


In its last four matches, the Bullddogs are 1-1-2 and recently had a 2-2 draw at Longwood where Gillian Oyos and Kyra Kandel netted goals.


Only five Bulldogs have scored this season as the team is averaging 0.75 goals per contest. Oyos leads UNCA with five points (2G, 1A) while Kandel has four points (1G, 2A).


UNCA has split time among three goalies. Courtney O’Malley leads the team with four starts, 38 saves, .884 save percentage and has a 1.07 goals against average.


Scouting the Lancers


Longwood drew 2-2 with Charleston Southern on September 22 with the game seeing three goals in the final 15 minutes of regulation. Kelly Almeida leads the team with six points and three goals scored. Three other Lancers are tied with two goals scored.


Madison Van Dyke has played nearly every minute in goal for Longwood this season. She has 38 saves, a 1.77 goals against average and .691 save percentage.


Series Histories


UNCA leads the series 7-2-1 with PC last winning in 2013. Last year, the Blue Hose dropped a 4-3 contest at Greenwood Field where the Bulldogs’ Erika Snyder scored the game winner in the 89th minute.


The Blue Hose trail the Lancers 2-5-2 in the series matchup. PC’s last win over Longwood was a 1-0 game on September 21, 2002, that saw the Blue Hose improve to 6-0 on the young season. Last year, the Lancers picked up a 1-0 OT win at Martin Stadium with Sheyenne Stretz scoring the golden goal at the 92:23 mark.
