Charlotte, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced the 2019 Women’s Lacrosse preseason poll on Tuesday, with Presbyterian College being picked to finish seventh. Senior defender Hudson Roarick (Old Saybrook, Conn.) was named to the Preseason All-Conference Team.

High Point, last year’s conference champion, was the preseason favorite and garnered the Preseason Offensive and Defensive players of the year in Abby Hormes and Samantha Herman respectively.

Campbell finished second in the preseason poll with 41 points, while Winthrop was third with 32 points.  Radford finished fourth in the voting with 30 points. Longwood landed in the fifth spot with 23 points, followed by Gardner-Webb in sixth-place with 13 points, and PC received with nine points for the seventh and final spot in the poll.

The preseason All-Conference team is comprised of three attackers, three midfielders, three defenders, one goalkeeper and three at-large selections.

Roarick was a 2nd Team All-Big South player last season as a junior. The defender started all 17 games, accumulating 30 ground balls and a team-leading 19 caused turnovers. She tied her career single-game high with three caused turnovers in four of the seven Big South games, including an active streak of three in a row to end the season. Roarick also tied her career single-game best with five ground balls in the season finale at Radford. She added her first career goal against Delaware State.

PC will begin its season on Saturday, February 9, with a 3 pm game at Mount Saint Mary’s. The Blue Hose will play their first home game on Saturday, February 16, against Wofford in Bailey Stadium.

The 2019 Big South Women’s Lacrosse Championship tournament is slated for April 26 & 28 at the No. 1 seed.  The top four teams qualify for the postseason event and the champion receives the Big South’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
