CLINTON, S.C. – The Big South Conference announced its 2017 Women's Lacrosse All-Conference awards on Thursday, and senior defender Maura Talvacchia has earned First Team and All-Academic Team honors. High Point garnered Offensive Player of the Year (Samantha Brown), Defensive Player of the Year (Christina Del Sesto), and Coach of the Year (Lyndsey Boswell) honors. Liberty's Carly White is the Freshman of the Year, while Campbell's Mackenzie Koeller is the Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

A team captain from Moorestown, N.J., Talvacchia leads the nation in caused turnovers per game (3.63) and is tied for third with teammate Kayla Koch in ground balls per game (4.00). She started all 16 games for the Blue Hose this season, totaling 64 ground balls, 60 caused turnovers, nine draw controls, and a goal. Talvacchia set season highs with eight ground balls at Campbell on April 5 and seven caused turnovers against Saint Francis (Pa.) on February 26. She scored her first career goal in a loss at Furman on February 22. She finishes her career at PC with 232 ground balls, 36 draw controls, and 228 caused turnovers, which rank second in NCAA DI history behind Wagner's Shea Gegan (235; 2013-16).

The distinctions mark the fourth year in a row Talvacchia has received All-Conference honors. In her first three years at PC, she was named to the All-Big South Second Team. She is also the first PC player to earn First Team honors.
