Clinton, S.C. – Mattie Kennedy’s career high 13 points was not enough for the Blue Hose to hold off the Owls as they finished the last 6:23 of play on a 19-1 run. Kamiyah Street, the Owls leading scorer, scored 12 of her 19 points in the fourth quarter alone as she went 8-8 from the free throw line down the stretch.

Kennedy and Kacie Hall each led the team with 13 points apiece, Kennedy scored hers on a career high three made three-pointers. Ericka Blackwell-Boyden would haul in a career high six rebounds while Cortney Storey added a game high seven assists. Riley Hemm added a career high tying two made three-pointers off the bench for the Blue Hose.

Kennesaw State would grab 13 offensive rebounds leading to 13 second chance points in the game. The Owls finished +18 in rebounding as a whole with a 43-25 edge.
How it Happened
The Blue Hose jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead on Kennedy’s first three pointer of the game. Kennesaw State would pull back to within one a pair of free throws but PC would finish the quarter on a 13-2 run to lead 20-8 after the first period. PC force 10 Owls turnovers and held them to only seven shot attempts.
In the second period the Owls would claw back as they were able to avoid the turnovers, only turning it over seven times and taking 11 shots. They would cut the deficit to as little as five but the Blue Hose would take a seven-point lead into the half. When Kennesaw State cut the Blue Hose lead to five PC came right back with a lay-up to go back up seven.
Hemm and Kennedy both set season highs in three-pointers in the first half, and the Blue Hose forced 17 turnovers.
Both teams struggled to score the ball in the third quarter as Kennesaw State went 4-14 from the field and the Blue Hose went 3-12. PC would hit the timely shots whenever Kennesaw State tried to get on a run. Both teams made three free-throws and PC led 42-37.
At the 7:10 mark of the fourth Kennedy hit her third three-pointer of the evening to take a 48-39 lead, the Owls would respond on their end to make it a seven-point game. Hall came right back down the court following that and put the Blue Hose back up by nine but that was the final made field goal for PC. Kennesaw State went on a 19-1 run the rest of the way with nine of the points coming via free throws.

The Blue Hose travel to face the Duke Blue Devils on Sunday, November 26 at 2:00 p.m. This will be the second meeting between the Blue Devils and Blue Hose as Duke defeated PC in the 2012-13 season.
