RADFORD, Va. -- The Presbyterian College men’s basketball team battled back from a double digit deficit in the second half but came up short against Radford as the hosts picked up a 79-77 victory on Saturday afternoon in Big South play. Francois Lewis paced the Blue Hose with 16 points as five players scored in double figures for PC.
Scoring the Game
The Blue Hose and Highlanders went back and forth thru the opening six minutes with Francois Lewis leading the way with seven points as PC got out to an early 12-10 lead. Radford went on an 8-2 run over the next 2:30 to take a four-point lead before back-to-back threes from J.C. Younger gave the Blue Hose back a two-point advantage.
A three pointer from Adam Flagler and Lewis helped PC extend the lead out to six, 26-20 before the Highlanders responded with a 15-5 run with 3:30 to go in the first half. Presbyterian used a Younger three pointer to cut the deficit to four, 35-31 however an 8-2 burst from the hosts gave them the 43-33 lead at halftime.
PC behind eight early points from Cory Hightower to open the second half cut Radford’s lead down to five, 53-48 with 14:29 to go in the second half. The Highlanders extended it to a 10-point advantage with 12:49 to go before PC rattled off nine unanswered points to take a 59-58 lead on a pair of Davon Bell free throws.
Radford pushed it back out to a five-point lead with back-to-back threes however the Blue Hose answered once again going back and forth with the Highlanders as a Chris Martin layup with 3:33 to go tied the game up at 69 apiece.
A 9-3 burst from Radford over a 2:50 minute stretch gave the hosts a 78-72 lead. A Bell layup and Flagler three pointer wouldn’t be enough as Radford held on for the 79-77 victory.
Players of the Game
Francois Lewis led the Blue Hose in scoring for the eighth time this season with 16 points as he went 6-of-8 from the field. Cory Hightower added 15 points, while J.C. Younger chipped in with 14 points as he buried a team-high four threes. Hightower pulled down seven rebounds for the second straight game. Davon Bell added eight assists to lead PC. Ed Polite Jr led Radford with 22 points and nine rebounds.
Stats of the Game
Radford opened the game shooting 56 percent in the first half, compared to 40% for PC. Presbyterian improved shooting in the second half as it shot 57.7% percent and held Radford to 45.5% with Radford finishing at 51.1% and PC at 48.2%. The Blue Hose connected on nine three-pointers, while the Highlanders hit 14 threes. PC had the 31-25 advantage on the glass. Presbyterian dominated the inside with a 34-14 lead in points in the paint. PC had a 10-6 lead in steals highlighted by four from Bell.

For the Record
PC drops to 9-9 overall and 1-2 in the Big South, while Radford moves to 11-6 and 3-0 in league play.
The Blue Hose return to the Templeton Center to face Hampton Wednesday Jan. 16 with tipoff slated for 7:00 p.m.
