Charleston Southern used a couple of late runs in the second half to secure the 64-54 win over the Presbyterian College men’s basketball team in Big South action Saturday afternoon in Clinton, S.C. JC Younger led the Blue Hose effort with 22 points and a career-high tying six three-pointers.
Scoring the Match
A half of runs, the Bucs opened the game with seven straight before PC responded with back to back three-pointers from JC Younger to kick start a 24-7 run and take the 24-14 lead, 6:44 left in the half. Highlighting the run were five threes from Younger, as part of his 17 points during the 10-minute stretch. Charleston Southern came back, outscoring the Blue Hose 16-2 the final 5:02, to head to the locker room leading 30-26.
Another Younger three-pointer, his career-high tying sixth of the night, helped PC tie the game at 34-34, 16:58 on the clock. Tied again at 43-43, off a Ruben Arroyo layup at 10:56, the Bucs scored eight unanswered to jump out to a 51-43 lead, 9:27 left. It was part of a 10-1 run as CSU made it a nine-point lead, 55-46, 6:50 on the clock. The Blue Hose cut it to three off an 8-2 run, but CSU got three free throws and a layup from Cortez Mitchell, as well as two free throws from Christian Keeling to make it a 10-point game, 64-54, at the end.
Player of the Match
JC Younger was the star for PC in the first half, scoring 19 of the team’s26 points in the opening 20 minutes. He would finish the game with 22 points, helped in part to a career-high tying six three-pointers. Romeo Crouch was tops in rebounds with seven. Leading CSU was Christian Keeling with 20 points, with Travis McConico and Keeling pacing the team in rebounds with seven apiece.
Stat of the Match
Turnovers were important with PC committing 17, to CSU’s 17. The Bucs held the points off turnover advantage, 22-11. CSU edged the home team in shooting percentage, 38.8%-32.1%, with the Blue Hose hitting nine three-pointers, to the Bucs’ seven. CSU connected on 19 free throws, to PC’s 11, while the Blue Hose pulled down two fewer rebounds, 36-38.
