CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- Presbyterian College pitchers Eric Miles (Lancaster, S.C.) and Austin Paradis (Charlotte, N.C.) swept the starting pitcher and relief pitcher of the week awards respectively in the Big South, as announced by the conference on Monday.
Miles is the second starting pitcher to earn the accolade as Reagan Fowler earned the honors earlier this season. Paradis is the first relief pitcher for the Blue Hose since Colton Springs last season to earn relief pitcher of the week honors.
Paradis was lights out last week tossing 5.0 IP over three appearances where he didn't allow a run while striking out 10 and earning two saves. He opened the week entering into a bases loaded jam in the 10th at Wofford and picked up a strikeout and fly ball double play to complete the season sweep of the Terriers with a save. He came on Friday night in relief of Eric Miles and struck out a career-high five in two scoreless innings to help earn Friday's win. In game two of Saturday's doubleheader he entered into a bases loaded jam with no outs in the eighth and would go onto strike out the side and end the game with a strikeout in the ninth for his second save of the week.
Miles continued his strong pitching of late as he earned his fifth win with seven shutout innings against USC Upstate. He scattered six hits over his 7.0 innings while striking out seven Spartan batters. Miles improved to 4-1 with a 2.80 ERA in league play as he has 36 strikeouts over 35.1 innings pitched. He’s been consistent during Big South play with 6.0+ innings in four of his five starts while striking out at least seven batters in four of those same five starts.
Presbyterian hits the road with its seven game win streak on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. first pitch against Davidson before returning home for a three-game Big South series against High Point beginning on Thursday at 3 p.m.
