ASHEVILLE, NC – The Presbyterian College baseball team was unable to complete the series sweep, falling to UNC Asheville 7-5 on Sunday. A four-run second inning proved to be too much as the Blue Hose fall to 12-22 overall and 6-6 in the Big South. The Bulldogs improve to 9-22 overall and 5-7 in conference play.

How It Happened

In the bottom of the second, the Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead on four hits and a throwing error by the pitcher. Danny Wilson started the scoring with a two-RBI single up the middle. Then a single by Joe Zayatz and a fielder’s choice by Carmine Pagano made it 4-0.

The Blue Hose rallied back with runs in the third and fourth innings. In the top of the third, Jonathan White singled to left center and scored Nick Guimbarda to put PC on the board, 4-1. Then, to lead off the fourth, Nick Wise sent the first pitch over the right field fence to record his sixth home run of the year and make it a two-run game, 4-2.

In the bottom of the sixth, UNCA pushed their lead back to four runs. Danny Wilson singled to score Chris Troost, and Pagano recorded a sac fly to make it 6-2.

In the top of the seventh, Andrew Bladt walked to put a runner on first. He advanced to second on a single by White and scored on a single from Priaulx. White then scored on a failed pickoff attempt to bring the score to 6-4.

In the bottom of the eighth, Pagano singled up the middle to record his third RBI of the day and make the game 7-4.

Down to their last three outs, Guimbarda doubled to lead off the ninth. Bladt walked to put two runners on with no outs. TJ Richardson singled through the right side to score one, making it 7-5, but the Bulldogs’ bullpen held strong to close out the game.
