Combs And Lyda Lead PC On Saturday

GREENVILLE, N.C.Presbyterian College dropped both games of a doubleheader with East Carolina on Saturday afternoon at Clark-LeClair Stadium. The Pirates took an 11-2 victory in the first game before taking a 3-0 win in game two.

 

The Blue Hose are now 12-30 on the 2008 season, while ECU is 32-13.

 

Game One

Jared Combs (Pooler, Ga.) led the Blue Hose in PC’s 11-2 loss to East Carolina in the first game on Saturday. Combs was 2-for-4 overall from the plate for PC, scoring two runs and collecting one RBI.

 

Combs scored PC’s first run of the contest in the top of the second inning when he belted a solo home run. The home run was his team-high seventh of the 2008 season.

 

Combs then scored PC’s second and final run of the contest in the top of the fourth on a wild pitch. Combs had reached base by doubling down the left field line.

 

Cory Lyda (Simpsonville, S.C.) and Zac Rhinesmith (Acworth, Ga.) each had one hit for the Blue Hose in game one.

 

The Pirates opened the contest by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead. They would never look back, scoring two or more runs in three other innings to take the 11-2 win.

 

Cory Kemp led the ECU attack in the first game. Kemp was 3-for-4 from the dish, scoring three runs.

 

Game Two

 

Lyda led the Blue Hose with two hits in the second game. He was 2-for-4 in the contest overall. On the day, Lyda led PC with three hits.

 

Kyle Craven (Savannah, Ga.) and William Bolchoz (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) both had one hit for PC in the second game.

 

Justin Bristow led the Pirates attack in the second game, striking out nine Blue Hose from the hill. PC starting pitcher Eric Tatum (Buford, Ga.) struck out two ECU batters.

 

Next Up

 

The Blue Hose now have some time off for exams before next traveling to the Commonwealth of Virginia to take on the ACC’s Virginia Tech for a doubleheader on Sunday, May 4. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 1 p.m.
