TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Presbyterian College tallied a thrilling 11-inning 10-9 victory over Florida A&M on Thursday afternoon at Moore-Kittles Field.
Florida A&M (1-8) scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to build a 6-1 lead over the Blue Hose (5-5), but the Blue Hose staged a five-run rally in the top of the ninth to force extra innings.
In the top of the 10th inning, PC shortstop Zac Rhinesmith (Acworth, Ga.) lashed an RBI single to right, scoring Jared Combs (Pooler, Ga.) for a 7-6 lead.
FAMU tied the game in the bottom of the inning, 7-7, when Corey McFadden belted a solo home run to left field.
Casey Carlson (Lexington, S.C.) then drove in a run in with a single to give PC an 8-7 lead in the top of the 11th. The Blue Hose went on to score two more runs in the 11th to take a 10-7 lead.
Florida A&M rallied in the bottom of the 11th, scoring two runs, but PC held off the rally to take the win and move back to .500.
PC managed 13 hits in the victory with Drew Wingo (Simpsonville, S.C.) leading with three hits. The trio of Jesse Harmon (Newberry, S.C.), Rhinesmith and Robbie Anders (Greenville, S.C.) each had two hits for PC.
Zach Snipes (Belton, S.C.) was the winning pitcher for PC, working three and one-third innings of relief. The win was the first of the year for Snipes (1-0).
Andrew Cockerham (Millers Creek, N.C.) fanned two in the 11th to pick up his first save of the 2008 season.
Julian Bailey (0-1) took the loss for FAMU, giving up three runs in one and one-third innings with one strikeout.
PC and FAMU will close the two-game series at 1 p.m. on Friday at Moore-Kittles Field.
