Clinton, S.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team took down Gardner-Webb in four sets on Friday night in the Templeton Center to move to 5-8 in Big South play. The Blue Hose defeated the Runnin’ Bulldogs 25-18, 25-21, 21-25, and 26-24.

Freshman Lauren Talbert led the way for PC with 14 kills and a .379 hitting percentage. Classmate Erin Cooke recorded another double-double with 10 kills and 22 assists. Senior Jaclyn Brewington tallied a team-high 27 assists on the night. Sophomore Sydney De Jong chipped in with eight kills and a team-high five blocks. Junior Erin Eulitz and sophomore Taylor each collected 13 digs to lead the Blue Hose.

PC was dominant over the Runnin’ Bulldogs over the course of the first set. De Jong and classmate Allie Wright each collected four kills in the opening stanza. Brewington picked up 12 of her helpers in the first set. The Blue Hose trailed at only one point during the set when Gardner-Webb held a 4-3 lead in the early going. PC was able to grow their lead to 18-12, forcing a timeout from GWU. That cushion would be plenty to take the set.

The Blue Hose had to battle a bit more in the second, but Cooke took control with four kills and a 1.000 hitting percentage. She and Brewington each had five assists in the set. PC held a 20-14 lead late in the set, but the Runnin’ Bulldogs would rally to make it 24-21, but their rally fell short and set two would belong to the Blue Hose.

In the fourth and final set, the Runnin’ Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 8-4 lead, forcing a Blue Hose timeout. The Blue Hose fought back and even the set at 14, causing a Gardner-Webb timeout. PC took six of the next nine points to take a 20-17 advantage late in the set, but the Runnin’ Bulldogs tied things up at 22. The Blue Hose would emerge victorious after scoring four of the final six points. Talbert paced PC with five kills in the set.
