CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Presbyterian sophomore middle blocker Sydney De Jong (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) has been named the Big South Volleyball Player of the Week, and Campbell freshman Grace Kane (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) is the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 24-30.  Presbyterian’s Erin Cooke (Davidson, N.C.) is this week’s Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

De Jong helped carry Presbyterian to two five-set road victories last week and move to 4-0 in Big South play.  She had a .426 hitting percentage, 29 kills (2.90 per set), 13 blocks (1.30 per set) and 38 points (3.80 per set).  On Friday at Winthrop, she tallied 14 kills for a .333 hitting percentage, along with eight blocks and two digs.  De Jong followed that up with a .571 hitting percentage, 15 kills and five blocks on Saturday at Gardner-Webb.

Kane recorded 32 digs (4.57 per set) last week en route to two wins for the Camels.  In a sweep over UNC Asheville, she tallied 13 digs.  Kane then improved on that number with 19 digs in a four-set victory over USC Upstate.

Cooke finished last week with a .387 hitting percentage, 31 kills (3.10 per set), 37 assists (3.70 per set), 17 digs (1.70 per set), five blocks (0.50 per set) and 35 points (3.50 per set).  She recorded a double-double at Winthrop with 17 kills and 15 digs, in addition to a .424 hitting percentage and two blocks in the five-set win.  Then in the road win at Gardner-Webb, Cooke had 14 kills for a .345 clip along with two digs and three blocks.

This is the second week in a row that De Jong has earned a Big South weekly award. This is Cooke's first time garnering a Big South honor.
