Jacksonville, Fla. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose (3-9) volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday. They fell to Austin Peay Governors 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-23) and South Florida 3-1 (19-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-19). The Blue Hose were led by Erin Eulitz with six kills in the morning opener and 16 kills in the afternoon match. Allie Wright and Sydney De Jong joined Eulitz with double figure kills in the second match.
Scoring the Match:
Match One, Set One (AP 25 – PC 15) – The Blue Hose kept it close for a while as PC and Austin Peay were tied 9-9 before the Governors went on an 11-3 run to make it a 20-12 set. The Blue Hose were unable to make a comeback and fell 25-15.
Match One, Set Two (AP 25 – PC 11) – PC jumped to an early lead of 7-5 led by kills from four different Blue Hose. The Governors, trailing by two, would go on a 14-2 run and take a 19-9 lead before winning 25-11.
Match One, Set Three (AP 25 – PC 23) – The Blue Hose would sneak out to a 15-8 lead led by nine points as a team and six more errors by the Governors before Austin Peay would respond with a 9-2 run of their own to tie the set at 17. The remainder of the set would be a back and forth affair with the Governors finishing on top 25-23.
Match Two, Set One (USF 19 – PC 25) – PC jumped out to a 6-1 lead and was able to hold off the Bulls rally. The Blue Hose outscored USF by a 19-18 margin in the back and forth set. De Jong finished with five of her 11 kills in the set while Eulitz had seven digs.
Match Two, Set Two (USF 25 – PC 18) – The Bulls jumped out to a 11-4 lead and held the Blue Hose off. The two tied 14-14 the rest of the way as PC fell 25-18. Eulitz finished with six of her 16 kills in the second set. Daley Gosnell finished with nine digs in the set.
Match Two, Set Three (USF 25 – PC 16) – Eulitz had five kills and three digs as the Blue Hose finished with 10 kills as a team. PC and USF were tied 9-9 before South Florida finished on a 16-7 run.
Match Two, Set Four (USF 25 – PC 19) – Gosnell finished the fourth set with 10 digs and PC despite being tied 14-14 was unable to finish the set off. USF went on an 11-5 run to finish the Blue Hose off.
Player of the Day:
Eulitz finished the day off with 22 kills and 24 digs in the two matches.
Notes of the Day:
- The Blue Hose fell to 3-9 on the season and went 0-3 in the Dolphin Invitational.
- Three PC players finished with 10+ kills and three with 10+ digs.
- Eulitz finished with a double/double of 16 kills and 19 digs in the second match.
