Hampton, Va. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team finished the 2018 season with their 10th win on Saturday afternoon against Hampton. This is PC’s best mark since winning 12 matches in 2014. The Blue Hose defeated the Lady Pirates 25-23, 16-25, 27-25, and 25-20 for the victory.
Freshman Erin Cooke collected another double-double with a team-high 14 kills on a .400 hitting percentage and 10 assists. Sophomore Allie Wright led PC with a .579 hitting percentage on 13 kills and also added a team leading four total blocks. Senior Jaclyn Brewington paced the Blue Hose with 24 assists in the match. Sophomore Taylor Farmer topped the team with 13 digs. Junior Erin Eulitz and freshman Lauren Talbert chipped in with 11 and seven kills, respectively.
The Blue Hose took an 11-6 lead early in the first set against the Lady Pirates, using a 5-0 run to gain the advantage. Hampton would fight back to even the set at 14. From that point forward, neither team was able to gain more than a two-point edge. PC found itself trailing 21-19 late, but scored six of the final eight points to take the first set.
The third set was filled with large scoring runs for both teams and required a pair of extra points to be scored. Hampton took an 8-4 lead after scoring five straight points early on. The Blue Hose would counter with a 11-3 run to take a 15-11 advantage. The Lady Pirates scored four of the next six points to tie the set up at 17. Hampton later found itself on the doorstep of a third set victory, up 24-22, but the Blue Hose took five of the final six points to take the set.
The fourth and final set was similar to both sets PC had won earlier in the match. The Blue Hose were down early and had to make a rally. PC evened the set at 12 and then didn’t look back. They went on a 6-1 scoring run and built the lead up to five, which would be the final margin. Hampton fell short in staging a late comeback and the Blue Hose finished the set and match.
