Clinton, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women’s tennis team will begin play as the #2 seed in the Big South Championship on Wednesday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. in Radford, Va. The Blue Hose will face the winner of Hampton vs. UNC Asheville. The #2 seed is the highest-ever Big South Championship seeding for PC.

The Blue Hose went 7-2 in conference play this season to earn the first-round bye in the championship. The team had five players with 10+ singles wins; Beth Taylor totaled 15 victories, Katie Thompson tallied 12, and Sydney Patton, Samantha Calais, and Jessica Leeman each had 10. Tracy Johnson was just short of double-digit victories at nine. Taylor led the team with seven Big South triumphs.


In doubles action, PC saw a pair of duos go undefeated against conference opponents. Patton and Johnson went 5-0 on court one when facing Big South teams and were 7-3 overall as a pair. Taylor and Thompson were 7-0 against conference foes and 12-1 for the season, all on court three. Calais and Leeman earned three Big South doubles wins on court two.


The Blue Hose defeated both UNC Asheville and Hampton during the regular season. PC defeated the Bulldogs in the last home match of the year, 5-2. Johnson, Taylor, and Thompson each picked up a pair of wins in the match. The Blue Hose swept Hampton, 4-0, in a weather-shortened match to begin Big South play this season.


The Big South Semifinals match will be played on Thursday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. The winner of the quarterfinal match between #2 PC and #7 UNC Asheville/#10 Hampton will take on the winner of #3 Gardner-Webb and #6 Radford. The live stats for that match can be found here:
