CHARLOTTE, N.C.  – Presbyterian junior Beth Taylor (Rainhill, England) is this week’s Women’s Tennis Player of the week, and UNC Asheville freshman Lize Alet Morkel (Western Cape, South Africa) is the Freshman of the Week for matches played Jan. 28-Feb. 3, the conference office announced Wednesday.
 
Taylor went 4-0 on PC’s Texas swing last week. She won both of her No. 3 doubles matches, 6-3 over Texas State and 6-1 against Incarnate Word. Taylor also claimed the No. 4 singles match, 7-5, 6-2, against UIW, then clinched the overall match for Presbyterian with a 7-5, 6-2, victory over Texas State.
 
Morkel finished last week with a perfect 6-0 record in helping the Bulldogs to a perfect 3-0 record as well. She claimed two No. 1 doubles matches with a 6-1 win against North Greenville, then a 6-0 victory over Mars Hill. Morkel went on to finish the week with a 6-2 win over Western Carolina at No. 2 doubles. The freshman also did not drop a match all week at the No. 1 singles spot. She began with a 6-2, 6-1 win over North Greenville, then followed with a near perfect 6-1, 6-0 win against Mars Hill.  Morkel then helped UNC Asheville defeat Western Carolina with her victory of 6-4, 6-2.

Taylor and the Blue Hose will open their home schedule on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. against Lee and then travel to Tennessee to take on the Volunteers on Sunday.
