CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women’s tennis team is set to host UNC Asheville on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Templeton Tennis Courts in the final home conference match of the season for PC.
The Blue Hose are coming off a big win last weekend, after topping Radford, 5-2, for the first time in program history. PC earned its 12th victory of the season with the win, tying the program’s Division I era record for single-season wins. In addition, it gave PC its second Big South win of the season, also a first for the program.
PC enters with an overall record of 12-7 and 2-4 in Big South play. UNC Asheville comes in having lost four of its last five matches for a 9-9 record overall and a 3-4 mark in conference play. Last season, the Bulldogs edged the Blue Hose, 4-3, as the two teams split the six singles matches with doubles win for UNCA proving the difference.
Tracy Johnson continues to lead PC with 14 wins in singles and 12 in doubles play. The 14 wins in singles play ranks tied for third-most in a single season in PC’s D1 history, while the 12 doubles wins matches Johnson’s total from last season, which places her tied for second in the Division I era. Johnson established a program record for the school’s Division I era with 16 singles wins a year ago.
Three other Blue Hose players have reached double-digit singles victories to push the total to four, the most in a single-season since 2012. Brittany Nuttall is second on the squad with 11 wins in singles, while Beth Taylor and Nicole Croxton both have 10 wins to their credit this season.
