BOONE, N.C. – The Presbyterian College men’s tennis team fell to Appalachian State, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon in Boone, N.C. The Blue Hose go to 2-2 on the season, while the Mountaineers improve to 1-1 overall.
Appalachian State started the match with a 1-0 lead by taking of three doubles matches. Appalachian State’s Scott Webster and Jack Maddocks topped Ben Kelley and Joel Roberts, 6-4, on court one, ending their unbeaten at three to start the year. The Mountaineers took the match on court two, 7-6, to take the point, but Diego Manzanas and Jaime Castillo-Lopez earned a 6-3 victory on court three.
The Mountaineers clinched the match by winning the first three singles matches but PC would claim two of the final three. Kelley remained unbeaten in singles play on the year with a 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 5, improving to 4-0. Roberts earned his third singles win of the year, going 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6.
The Blue Hose return to action on Sunday for a 4 p.m. meeting with ACC foe Clemson up the road in Clemson, S.C.
