Clinton, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men’s tennis team earned the fourth seed in the Big South Championship this weekend by finishing the regular season with a 5-3 conference record. PC will take on host Radford in the quarterfinals Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m.

Max Benson was named Big South Freshman of the Year on Tuesday morning, following his 20-win season. Benson won 11 singles matches on the season, ranging from courts one to three. All six of his Big South singles wins came on court two. Oscar Alvarez collected a team-high 12 singles wins, including six against conference opponents, and was named second team all-conference in singles. Jaime Castillo-Lopez finished the regular season with nine singles victories, four coming in Big South play.


The duo of Alvarez and Daniel Stenger was named to the Big South second team. The pair played all 20 of their matches on court one, picking up 10 wins for the year. Alvarez and Stenger tallied four wins against Big South foes. The team of Castillo-Lopez and Benson collected eight wins on the year and held a 4-2 conference record.


The Blue Hose defeated Radford on the road on Sunday, April 7 by a score of 5-2. Alvarez, Castillo-Lopez, and Alberto Conde all won third set tiebreakers to clinch the match for PC. The Highlanders also finished the season 5-3 in Big South play, but they earned the fifth seed because PC held the head-to-head tiebreaker.


The winner of this quarterfinal match will go on to face the winner of #1 Gardner-Webb and #8 USC Upstate/#9 Hampton Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. USC Upstate and Hampton will play on Wednesday to see who will face Gardner-Webb. Live stats for the semifinals match can be found here:
