Boiling Springs, N.C. – The Presbyterian College softball team split their Saturday afternoon doubleheader at Gardner-Webb, earning an 11-10 victory in the second game after dropping game one, 8-0. The Blue Hose are now 11-33-2 on the season, 1-16 in Big South play.

Macy Hyatt was the highlight of PC’s offensive attack in the second half of the twinbill. She launched a two-run homer in the top of the second inning and followed that with a two-run double in the next frame for a total of four runs batted in. The sophomore also walked twice and scored three runs in the game.

The offense started quickly for the Blue Hose in game two, as they put across a run in the top of the first. Ansley Wilbanks reached base with a one-out walk and then stole second. She would touch home on a single through the left side by Kiley Kross. After Hyatt, drove in her runs in the second and third, PC would get back to work in the fifth.

To start the frame, Chelsea Lyons, Hyatt, and Madison DeGennaro would all reach base to fill them up for pinch hitter Kelly Lucas. Lucas drew a walk to plate Lyons and keep the bases full for Jonnie Petree. Petree hit a sac fly to center field to score Hyatt and bring the score to 7-2. After Gardner-Webb scored a pair of their own, PC responded with three runs in the sixth inning. A pair of one-out singles by Courtney White and Lyons and then a walk by Harris loaded the bases for DeGennaro. DeGennaro took ball four, advancing the runners and forcing White home. Lyons would score on a sacrifice fly by Lindsay Harris. The third and final run of the inning came on a throwing error by Gardner-Webb’s third basemen.

In the top of the seventh, Casey Gerhard smacked a solo home run with one out to bring the score to 11-5. The blast was her fourth of the year and would be the insurance run that PC needed.

Lyons led all Blue Hose batters with three hits in the game and also was tied with Hyatt with three runs scored. White and Hyatt were the two others with multiple hits.

Sarah Ramsbottom earned her first win of the season against the Runnin’ Bulldogs. The sophomore worked 6.1 innings in the victory. She allowed 10 runs (eight earned) on nine hits and four walks. Courtney White picked up her second save of the season after collecting the final pair of outs while issuing three walks.

In game one, Taylor Ward got the start in the circle for PC. The freshman allowed eight runs on 10 hits and three walks in the loss. Petree grabbed a pair of hits and also stole her 30th base of the season in the contest.

The Blue Hose are scheduled to conclude their three-game series with Gardner-Webb tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
