Clinton, S.C. – The Presbyterian College softball team will open its Big South schedule this weekend at USC Upstate. All three games will be streamed live on ESPN+ for those who are not able to make the trip to Spartanburg. The Blue Hose will play a doubleheader against the Spartans on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. and then will play a single game on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Links for ESPN+ and live stats for each game can be found below.

The Blue Hose are now 7-16-2 in 2019 following an extra-inning 5-4 win against Savannah State on Tuesday. Freshman Kiley Kross led PC with three hits, two RBI, and two runs against the Tigers. The freshman is now batting .306 on the season. Chelsea Lyons leads the team with a .386 batting average, .439 slugging percentage, and a .507 on-base percentage. Ansley Wilbanks has collected a team-high 30 hits and 13 runs batted in on the season and holds a .366 batting average. Jonnie Petree has swiped 14 bags and is batting .303 for the year. Casey Gerhard and Courtney White have each smacked a pair of home runs.

 

Alyssa Batastini has seen the bulk of the work for the Blue Hose in the circle this year. The redshirt junior has pitched in 19 games, making 16 starts, and has thrown 91.2 innings. Batastini has five wins this season and currently holds a team-best 3.89 ERA and .258 batting average against. Taylor Ward picked up her second victory of the season on Tuesday when she relieved Batastini against Savannah State. The freshman now holds a 6.13 ERA on the year.

 

USC Upstate is 18-6 to begin play in 2019 following a split doubleheader at Jacksonville on Wednesday. Last weekend, the Spartans took part in the USF-Clearwater Parks and Recreation Showcase Tournament. They defeated Eastern Illinois and Colgate, but fell to Indiana and St. John’s (N.Y.). USC Upstate currently holds a team ERA of 1.11, and is led by Christina Biggerstaff and her 11-1 record and 0.73 ERA. The Spartans batting average is .292, with five players sitting above the .300 mark.

 

Following the three-game set with the Spartans, PC will have a pair of mid-week non-conference doubleheaders. The Blue Hose will travel to Orangeburg to take on South Carolina State on Tuesday, March 19 and then will return home for the first time since February 10 to host Western Carolina on Wednesday, March 20.
