The Presbyterian College softball team rallied back from a four-run deficit with two runs in the top of the seventh but were unable to get farther, dropping a 5-3 decision to Campbell in the first game of a three-game Big South series Friday afternoon in Buies Creek, N.C.  The two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday at 2 p.m.

CAM 5, PC 3

After two scoreless innings, PC struck first with a run in the third.  Macy Hyatt started things off with a two-out single.  She advanced to second on a Campbell error and scored after Megan Anderson reached base on a second Camel error to give the Blue Hose the 1-0 lead.  Campbell responded in the bottom of the frame with a lead-off walk by Hannah McCravy.  After advancing to second off a sacrifice bunt she scored off a Rachel McCollum RBI double.  Caroline Smith drew a walk to put runners on first and second.  Lizabeth McCrury brought them home off a three-run home run to propel to the Camels to the 4-1 lead.  A PC error the bottom of the fourth resulted in Campbell’s fifth run of the game as the home team made it 5-1.

A single and walk by PC in the top of the seventh put runners on first and second, with a ground out sending them to second and third.  Alexis Edgerton, who was pinch running for Presley Bissett after she opened the inning with a single to right, scored off a Campbell error.  A sacrifice hit by Jonnie Petree brought in PC’s third run, to cut the margin to two, 5-3.  That would be it as a ground-out the next at-bat ended the game with Campbell surviving for the 5-3 win.

Five different Camels posted hits, with McCurry recording three RBI.  Megan Richards (15-9) pitched a complete game, giving up three runs off five hits, with five strikeouts.  Campbell finished with five runs off five hits and three errors.

The Blue Hose posted three runs, five hits, and two errors.  Hyatt led the offense with two hits.  Kaylee Allen (1-17) went 2.2 innings, giving u four runs and four hits.  Camryn Alverson came in relief for 3.1 innings and surrendered on run and one hit.

For the Record

PC drops to 3-38 overall and 1-15 in the Big South, while Campbell improves to 23-23, 10-9.
