Charleston Southern snapped a 3-3 tie with three runs in the fifth inning to take the 6-3 win over the Presbyterian College softball team in the first game of a Big South doubleheader Saturday in Charleston, S.C. CSU took game three, 7-0, to earn the series sweep. Lindsay Harris hit her second home run of the season in game one.
CSU 6, PC 3
After PC loaded the bases in the top of the first and couldn’t get a run across neither team did anything in the second. The Bucs opened the bottom of the third with a walk and brought her home two batters later off an Annie Bakenhus two-run home run to give the home team the 2-0 lead.
The Blue Hose responded in the top of the fourth with a solo home run by Harris, her second of the season. Presley Bissett, who reached on a double, scored the second run off a wild pitch. A sacrifice fly by Del Rio put CSU back up 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth.
Another busy inning in the fifth, Bissett knotted the game at 3-3 off a RBI single, before the Bucs came back with three runs, the first and third off PC errors. The second came off a Bakenhus sacrifice fly to make it 6-3.
CSU, which scored six runs off two hits, was led by Bakenhus with her one hit and one RBI. The Bucs committed one error. Emily Visnic (1-3) earned the win, going 1.1 innings and surrendering two hits and one run. Alyssa Heinrich came in for 2.0 innings and picked up the save with no runs and no hits.
PC recorded three runs off six hits, with two errors. The Blue Hose were led by Harris and BIssett, each of whom went two-for-three with one RBI. Sarah Ramsbottom (0-5) took the loss, giving up six runs and one hit in 4.1 innings.
CSU 7, PC 0
After a quiet first and second inning, Madison Koger led off the bottom of the third with a single. She stole second, advanced to third on a ground out and scored the game’s first run off a wild pitch to give the home team the 1-0 lead. A two-RBI single from Koger in the bottom of the fourth made it 3-0, with four more coming across in the fifth. Jade Gandara laced a two-RBI double, while Madison Kasinger followed with a RBI single. The fourth run of the inning came off a PC error, giving CSU the final 7-0 win.
The Bucs finished with seven runs off seven hits, with one error. Leading the team were Kasinger, Koger, and Bakenhus with two hits apiece. Koger and Gandara led in RBI with two each. Heinrich (6-1) went 7.0 innings, giving up just one hit and no runs, with three strikeouts.
PC recorded a hit and an error in the game, with Bissett garnering a single to lead off the fifth inning. Alex Cook (0-9) went 4.0 innings, surrendering six runs off six hits, while striking out four.

PC drops to 2-29 overall and 0-9 in the Big South, while CSU improves to 21-17, 5-4.
PC returns for a five-game home stand with a doubleheader against S.C. State on tap at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 4. The Blue Hose host Winthrop April 7-8, taking on the Eagles in a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m., and a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
