KENNESAW, GA. – The Presbyterian College women’s lacrosse team fell to Kennesaw State 20-9 on Monday evening at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. The Blue Hose are now 1-7 on the year, while the Owls improve to 4-2. It marks the first win for Kennesaw State in the all-time series, with PC now leading 2-1.
Cady Roberts, Ellie Stader, and Jess Goergen each scored twice to lead the Blue Hose on offense. Roberts took four shots and added a ground ball and two draw controls. Stader converted 2-of-3 shots with one ground ball. Both of Goergen’s shots found the back of the net, with the senior adding a ground ball.
On defense, Lauren Schaaf, Alexandra Cole, and Kayla Koch each picked up five ground balls. Maura Talvacchia totaled four ground balls, four caused turnovers, and three draw controls. Koch recorded 14 saves with a 43.8 save percentage in just under 49 minutes of work.
PC struck first as Stader scored with 28:51 to play in the opening half, but it would be the only lead for the Blue Hose. KSU’s Sydney Farwick scored a hat trick to ignite a 7-0 run by the Owls. Stader posted her second goal of the day at the 8:40 mark. Goergen got into the scorer’s column with 5:33 remaining. Her score got PC to within 8-3, but the hosts scored a pair in the closing minutes and took a 10-3 lead at the break.
Kennesaw State started off quick in the second half with a goal in the opening minute. PC went back-and-forth with the Owls early as Roberts and Schaaf answered for the Blue Hose. PC could not get back, however, and KSU used runs of 3-0 and 4-0 to pull away.
KSU outshot PC (42-18), picked up more ground balls (37-31), and committed fewer turnovers (12-27). The Owls just edged the Blue Hose in draw controls (16-15) and converted 7-of-9 free-position shots and 12-of-14 clears. PC made 2-of-5 free-position shots and 14-of-20 clears were successful.
The Blue Hose open Big South play on Saturday, April 1 as they host Liberty in a 12 p.m. ET game at Martin Stadium.
