Spartanburg, SC – The Presbyterian College men’s and women’s cross country teams finished 4th at the 34th annual Eye Opener on Friday evening. Junior Sally Hart and sophomore William Wise led their respective teams at the Roger Milliken Center.
Hart ran 20:21 to lead PC in its first race of the season and finish 31st overall. Ripley Fricano (53rd) ran 21:24 to finish second for the Blue Hose. Bea DiBona (22:02) and Denise Devaney (22:21) ran most of the race together and were only separated by the final half-mile. DiBona finished 59th and Devaney 64th. Closing out the scoring for PC, Hydia Green ran 24:56 (81st) while Kennedy Brooks (25:30; 83rd) was close behind.
Wise used a strong final push to run a personal-best 28:16, finish 30th, and hold off Duncan Gotfredson (33rd) who finished at 28:22. Freshmen Neel Taber and Banner Plumb were also separated by the final kick, with Taber edging Plumb 28:50 to 28:51 in their first career 8ks. The duo finished 38th and 39th respectively. Alex Johnson (76th) finished fifth for PC at 35:17.
Furman won both the men’s team title (15 points) and the women’s team title (19 points). The Paladins’ Allie Buchalski (17:26) and Aaron Templeton (25:03) were the individual champions.
The Blue Hose will return to race on September 16th at the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, SC.
