Clinton, S.C. – Cortney Storey scored a team high 18 points with four assists and Ericka Blackwell-Boyden scored a career high 15 points but it was not enough as UNCG defeated PC 64-57 on Thursday afternoon at the Templeton Center.
Player of the Game
Storey followed up back to back 20-point efforts against North Carolina and NC Central with 18 points and four assists against UNCG. This was her eighth straight game recording at least four assists. Blackwell-Boyden recorded her first career double digit scoring effort as she had 15 points on 7-10 shooting from the field. Tess Santos making her first career start had a good outing as well with eight rebounds and three assists.

The Spartans finished the game +15 rebounds as they had 40-25 advantage.
How it Happened
Miles got the scoring started for the Blue Hose followed by a three from Santos and the Blue Hose jumped out to a 7-4 lead. UNCG regained control and led 18-12 with 55 seconds remaining in the quarter but the Blue Hose would go on 5-0 run to end the period. They carried that over to the second period and took a 19-18 lead. UNCG went on a 16-4 run to lead 34-23, Storey hit a lay-up and got the foul shot with two seconds left to make it 34-26 at the half.
The teams went back and forth early in the third and then with the Spartans leading 40-30 both teams went scoreless for over three minutes. PC finished the third on a 9-3 run to make it 47-39 after three quarters.
With UNCG leading 60-46 the Blue Hose would finish the last two minutes on an 11-4 run to make the final score of 64-57. PC hit three three-points in the final two minutes capped by a steal and three by Storey at the end. The Blue Hose went to Blackwell-Boyden often in the second half as she scored 11 of her 15 in the third and fourth quarters.
For the Record
The Spartans move to 5-8 on the season while the Blue Hose move to 2-8.
“I was glad to see Ericka (Blackwell-Boyden) bounce back and have a solid game today,” said coach Todd Steelman. “Overall, our competitive effort has to improve, especially at the start of games. We have the ability to compete with teams we will face from this point forward, but we have to play with pace and purpose to find success.”
Blackwell-Boyden finished with a career high 15 points. 11 of them coming in the second half.
Santos put up a career high four points, grabbed a career high eight rebounds and dished out a career high three assists in her first career start.
Storey finished with 18, her seventh game in double figures this season, she also finished with four assists, her eighth straight game with at least four assists.
The Blue Hose are off nine days for Christmas, they host the Furman Paladins on December 30. It is the first meeting between the two schools since the 2011-12 season.
