CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women’s basketball team dropped NC Central 60-50 Monday at the Templeton Center. PC led for 31 minutes and 58 seconds in the game.
The Blue Hose went to 5-6 on the season, while the Eagles fell to 1-9. NC Central’s Kristin Askew led all scorers with 20 points, while Janie Miles topped PC’s scoring with 10 points. The Blue Hose return to Big South Conference play and host High Point at 7 p.m. on December 29 at the Templeton Center.
NC Central opened up a four point lead after Tisha Dixon’s layup, two and a half minutes into the game. Salina Virola tied the game at the 4:04 mark with a made jumper. The Blue Hose ended the period on a 5-2 run led 12-11 after the first quarter.
Allie Wagner started the second quarter with six-straight points, while the Blue Hose went on a 12-3 run and took a 24-14 lead. Cortney Storey sank a 3-pointer at the 1:34 mark and gave PC its largest lead of the half at 31-17. Aianna Kelly ended the half with a made jumper and the Blue Hose took a 33-20 lead into the locker room. PC held the Eagles to 32.0 percent (8-of-25) shooting in the first half.
The Blue Hose started the second half on an 8-0 run before NC Central responded with a 13-0 run and cut the PC lead to 39-33. Kelly ended the period with four-straight points and gave the Blue Hose a 43-33 lead into the final quarter.
PC opened the final period on a 9-3 run and took a 16-point lead, 52-36. NC Central returned with a 6-0 run with less than two minutes left and cut the PC lead to 48-56. The Blue Hose converted four free-throws in the final 15 seconds and put the game away.
PC owned a 32-14 in the paint and a 26-12 points off turnovers advantage. The Blue Hose held the Eagles to 31.9 percent (15-of-47) shooting in the game.
Storey provided PC with nine points, while four Blue Hose players added eight. Wagner led the team with seven rebounds.
