Women's Basketball Adds Three for 2012-13
CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women’s basketball team and head coach Ronny Fisher announced the addition of three players for the 2012-13 squad as Cassidy Glenn (New Lenox, Ill.), Katelyn Grisillo (Daniel Island, S.C.) and Taryn Richard (Stuart, Fla.) will join the Blue Hose as part of PC’s Class of 2016.
“We are thrilled that these three young ladies will be joining our women’s basketball program at Presbyterian College,” Fisher said. “All three are outstanding kids from great families who have excelled both on the court and in the classroom. With their signing, we continue to attract hard-working, talented players who not only will make us a better team, but who are also perfect fits for the Presbyterian College community.”
Glenn, a 5-11 forward, will arrive at PC after a stellar career at Providence Catholic High School in New Lenox, Ill. The future Blue Hose won the team’s Most Valuable Player award for three straight years and will leave the program as its second all-time leading scorer with 1,308 points. She averaged 16.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in her senior year, as well as amassing 73 steals, 44 blocks and 32 assists.
Glenn played at every position in 2011-12 and scored in double-digits 27 times (including 12 games with over 20 points) en route to Herald News Girls’ Basketball All-Area Team and East Suburban Catholic Conference All-Conference honors.
“Cassidy is a tremendous athlete who played in a great high school program at Providence Catholic for Coach Eileen Copenhaver,” said Fisher. “She is certainly one of the most versatile players we have recruited over the past four years and her skill set and athleticism will help her make an immediate impact in our program. She has the size and jumping ability to score and rebound inside, but equally impressive are her abilities to shoot the three and score on the perimeter. Cassidy is a very exciting player to watch and it will be fun to see her progress as she reaches her potential.”
Grisillo, a 5-5 point guard, will don a Blue Hose jersey after an excellent four years at Bishop England High School in Charleston, S.C. A three-time High School Sports Report 2A All-State selection, Grisillo led the Battling Bishops to an undefeated season and a 2A state title. Grisillo averaged 9.6 points and 5.9 assists per game with 4.0 steals per game as well.
The future PC player was named to the 2A South Carolina High School Basketball Coaches Association All-State Team for 2012 in addition to earning 2010, 2011 and 2012 All-Region honors. The 2012 6AA Region Player of the Year, Grisillo was named the The Post and Courier’s Lowcountry Assist Leader in 2012 as well. Off of the court, she maintains a grade point average over 4.0 and is a nominee for Bishop England’s Kelly Leadership Award and the Manning Ring award for most outstanding girl in academics, character and athletics.
“Katelyn is a proven leader who played for Coach Paul Runey on the South Carolina 2A State Champion Bishop England squad,” said Fisher. “She is a true point guard who has the toughness and skills to come in and help us at the point guard position. She brings speed to our perimeter and is the type of player who makes everyone around her better.”
Richard, a 5-10 guard, will join PC following an accomplished career at Martin County High School in Martin, Fla. Richard averaged 16.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game in 2011-12 and posted a triple double (16 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists) in a game against Centennial High School. She joined the program’s 1,000-point club with 1,055 career points.
For her play on the court this season, Richard earned First Team All-Area honors as well as spots on the 7A Florida Athletic Coaches Association (FACA) and Florida Association of Basketball Coaches All-State Teams. She was also recognized as a 7A FACA All-State Academic Team for her work in the classroom.
"Taryn enjoyed a tremendous high school career at Martin County High School where she played for Coach Kindell Rivers," said Fisher. "She is a big guard with a quick release who can really stretch the defense with her ability to shoot the basketball. She is also a very good passer and post feeder who will be a great complement to our strong post play. She has the skill set and basketball IQ to fit well in our system.”
