Deadlocked 3-3 after 10 innings, both the Presbyterian College and North Carolina Central baseball teams scored five runs in the 11th inning to stay tied, 8-8, after 13 innings, resulting in the game being called due to darkness this afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex.

The Eagles move to 0-1-1, while the Blue Hose make it 2-1-1.  PC is back in action Friday, Feb. 21, when the team travels just up the road to Spartanburg to take on USC Upstate in a 4 p.m. game.

Zack Lee and Tyson Simpson each collected three hits and a RBI for the Eagles, with Jared Kehagias recording a team-leading two RBI.  Carlos Ortiz and Kory Wood each had two hits on the afternoon as well.  Alex Dandridge started for a pitching staff that saw seven take the mound during the four-hour game.  He went 3.0 innings, surrendering two runs off four hits.

Several Blue Hose players recorded at least two hits, including Brandon Martin, who had three RBI.  Cam McRae recorded two hits and two RBI, which included a solo home run in the fourth inning.  Other players with multiple hits included Nate Chong, Brad Zebedis, Jacob Midkiff and Billy Motroni, all of whom had two on the afternoon.  Hayden Deal started for PC, going seven innings, giving up just three runs off five hits, while striking out nine.

PC recorded 14 hits, compared to 13 for the Eagles, with the visitors coming away with two errors.

After the Eagles opened the first with three runs, the Blue Hose responded with two in the third, off a two-RBI single from Martin, and a run in the fourth, off the McRae home run, to tie the game.

The score remained 3-3 for the next several innings with both teams stranding runners in scoring position to force extra innings.

Williams led off the 11th inning with a single, with pinch runner Jacobi Harris advancing to second off a sacrifice bunt.  He would score off the double from Kehagias to give NCCU the 4-3 lead.  After an Eagle ground-out to put two outs on the board, NCCU strung together three hits in a row to drive in three more runs to go up 7-3.  After an Eagle walk Simpson brought in the eighth and final run to give NCCU the 8-3 lead heading into the bottom of the 11th.

Motroni led off the bottom of the frame with his second hit of the game.  He reached second on a Chong base hit, with both runners advancing on a wild pitch the next at-bat.  That at-bat saw Jay Lizanich draw the walk to load the bases.  Zebedis knocked a RBI single through the right side as PC cut the margin to 8-4.  Paul came through with a two-RBI single next up as the Blue Hose trailed by just two, 8-6.

Martin made it 8-7 with a RBI double, while a sacrifice fly from McRae knotted the game at 8-8.  The last PC batter popped up to end the inning and the game moved to the 12th.

PC loaded the bases in the 12th with two outs but stranded all three after the Blue Hose flied out to end the inning.  North Carolina Central had a runner thrown out at home in the 13th after Lee singled to right and Paul’s throw back to home was on target, enabling McRae to make the tag on Cagle.

Midkiff led off the 13th with a single but could get farther than second as the last two batters lined out and flied out to end the inning.

With darkness falling the game was called after 13 innings, giving both teams the 8-8 tie.
