DURHAM, N.C. - The Presbyterian College baseball team found itself locked in a pitchers' duel against North Carolina Central on Wednesday evening and edged the Eagles, 3-1.

PC collects its fourth straight win and improves to 5-9 on the year. NC Central moves to 1-12. The Blue Hose take on Wofford on Thursday night at Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C. The first pitch is slated for 6 p.m.

PC's effective pitching held the Eagles to only one run, allowing the visitors' four hits and three runs to hold up as the winning margin.

Brandon Paul (Augusta, Ga.) went 2-for-4 while Kenny Bryant (Goose Creek, S.C.) picked up PC's lone RBI with a home run in the second inning.

Senior Matt Nodelman (Columbia, S.C.) made his first career start and allowed only two hits in two innings, striking out three in the process. Tim Corbin (Murrells Inlet, S.C.) picked up his first career win with two innings of one-hit ball while Gabe Grammer (Irmo, S.C.) earned his fourth save of the season.

Six pitchers saw the mound and limited NC Central to six hits while striking out 10.

Bryant put PC on the board first, hitting a solo home run deep to right center to lead off the second inning. The dinger marked Bryant's second home run in as many games and put the senior in the team lead for home runs this season.

The Blue Hose struck again in the second by manufacturing a run. Nate Chong (Duluth, Ga.) walked to first and stole second, followed by a trip to third on a wild pitch. Standing 90 feet from home plate, a balk sent Chong in and PC took a 2-0 lead.

Shutout relief pitching from Corbin and Andrew Foushee (Augusta, Ga.) kept the Eagles from scoring until the seventh, when two wild pitches from Kelly Wright (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) allowed NC Central to score a run. Wright stopped the scoring there, however, striking out Dyla Drayton to end the inning.

Nick Ferguson (Lancaster, S.C.) threw a perfect eighth inning to take PC into the final inning, where the Blue Hose crossed home plate once more. With two away, an Anthony Wilson error allowed Billy Motroni (Goose Creek, S.C.) to get on base and reach second. A Ross Plummer error then brought Motroni around to give PC an insurance run, 3-1.

Grammer left centerfield for the mound and earned his second straight save, striking out one and allowing a hit in the final inning to seal the result.
