ORLANDO, Fla. - Chandler Knox (Columbia, S.C.) pitched a complete game to help the Presbyterian College baseball team upset the No. 13 University of Central Florida on Sunday afternoon, 7-2.

PC improves to 20-26, its second straight season with at least 20 wins. UCF falls to 37-11.

The result gives PC its first win over a ranked opponent since last season's 4-3 victory over then-ranked No. 16 Clemson on March 16, in which Knox earned a win in relief.

The Blue Hose sophomore struck out a season-high six batters on Sunday, allowing only two earned runs on eight hits for PC's first complete game of the year.

PC exploded for six runs in the second inning, grabbing the only lead it would need and matching a season-high for runs in an inning.

Nine players tallied at least one hit while Jay Lizanich (Greer, S.C.) and Andrew Williams (Augusta, Ga.) led the team with two RBI each. Williams' runs came on his fourth home run of the season, setting a new career high. PC also outhit the Knights, 13-8.

PC struck first in the second. A pair of singles put two runners on with one out before Brandon Paul (Augusta, Ga.) drove home Cam McRae (Darlington, S.C.) with a double to left field. An Aaron Preston (Goose Creek, S.C.) single then brought around Gabe Grammer (Irmo, S.C.) to put the Blue Hose ahead by two.

Preston took second on a wild pitch to set up a Lizanich two-run double that pushed the PC lead to 4-0.

The play brought Williams to the plate. The second baseman worked the count to 3-1 and smacked the next pitch over the right field fence, giving PC a 6-0 advantage and forcing a UCF pitching change as starter Brian Adkins left the game.

The Blue Hose continued to roll, as Brad Zebedis (Rock Hill, S.C.) and Kenny Bryant (Goose Creek, S.C.) racked up back-to-back singles before the inning ended.

Knox and the PC defense took over for the next three innings, holding the Knights scoreless until the fifth inning. UCF tallied one run in both the fifth and sixth innings on solo home runs from D.J. Hicks and Alex Friedrich to make the score 6-2.

PC and Knox went three-up, three-down against UCF in the seventh and eighth to take the game into the final inning, where PC added an insurance run in the top of the frame. Preston hit a leadoff single and stole second after two PC lineouts. The outfielder reached third on a passed ball and came home thanks to a Billy Motroni (Goose Creek, S.C.) full-count RBI single.

Down to their last three outs, the Knights used two singles to put a pair of runners aboard with one out. Knox silenced the UCF bats from there, however, striking out the final two batters to seal the win.

The two sides meet in the rubber match Monday at noon. PC then heads to Auburn for a Tuesday night game at 7 p.m.
