Gabe Grammer (Irmo, S.C.) pounded out two hits, including a two-run home run in the eighth, while freshman Chandler Knox (Columbia, S.C.) struck out seven, to lead the Presbyterian College baseball team to the 6-1 win this afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex in Clinton, S.C.
"I thought the bats were a little slow early on in the game," said head coach Elton Pollock. "But our guys picked it up and we came through with a good win today."
Other leaders for the Blue Hose (4-0) were John Wagner (Olney, Md.), who went one-for-three with two RBI after his single down the right field line in the second inning drove in the game's first two runs, and Kenny Bryant (Goose Creek, S.C.) who was two-for-four with one run scored.
Presbyterian College scored two more in the third inning before Davidson's (2-3) Andrew Barna hit a solo shot over the left field wall to cut the margin to three, 4-1.
Grammer added insurance runs in the eighth with his two-RBI home run over the left field wall, to make it 6-1.
Knox made his first start for PC and went 7.2 innings, giving up just one run off five hits, to earn the win. Danny Mooney went 5.0 innings with six hits and four runs
"I can't say enough about Chandler (Knox) today. He picked up a save this weekend and then got a win his first collegiate start. Aside from the home run, he was hitting his spots all day and gave up only five hits in just over seven innings."
The Blue Hose begin a three-game road trip with a Feb. 25th stop in Spartanburg, S.C. to take on USC Upstate at 4 p.m. PC travels up to Wofford the next day for a 2 p.m., before returning to USC Upstate Feb. 27 to take on Gardner-Webb in a non-conference match-up at 4 p.m.
