The Presbyterian College volleyball fell to Charleston Southern in four sets in the Big South opener at the Templeton Center on Tuesday evening. Charleston Southern won the match with sets of 27-25, 16-25, 25-20 and 25-16.

How it Happened
The Blue Hose scored early and often in the first set, tallying the game’s first three points with the help of a pair of kills from Samantha Del Toro. PC saw its lead move to 5-1 before Charleston Southern recorded three straight points to close the gap. After a few back-and-forth vollies which made the score 7-6 in favor of PC, the Blue Hose rattled off five straight points to go ahead 13-6. PC increased its lead to 20-12 at one point, before the Buccaneer’s began chipping away at the lead. PC reached game point at 24-20, but could not close out the game and fell 27-25 in game one.

PC once again opened the scoring in the second game of the night on a service error. CSU was able to grab an early lead in the game, but never led by more than three points at 6-3. The Blue Hose began the comeback on a kill by Ashton Stewart, followed by two more kills by Halle Tripp. The Buccaneers retook the lead with two consecutive points, but that would prove to be their final lead of game two. PC scored nine straight points to jump out to a 16-9 lead. CSU scored three points in a row to close the gap to four, but would not get any closer as the Blue Hose went on to win game two by a score of 25-16.

PC opened the scoring in the third game on a service ace from Erin Eulitz. However, CSU responded with five straight points to take the lead. Charleston Southern never relinquished the lead for the rest of the game. PC was able to cut the lead to one at 17-16 midway through the match, but an attack error kept the Blue Hose from tying the game. CSU outscored PC 8-3 from that point on and took game three 25-19.

For the fourth time in as many games, the Blue Hose opened the scoring, this time on a service error from the Buccaneers. CSU and PC went back-and-forth for the opening eight points of game four before Charleston Southern took the lead for good at 5-4. CSU went on to take the final game 25-16 to win the match.

Player of the Match
Erin Eulitz racked up 15 kills and 13 digs, with one ace in the match. Sierra Davis posted a career-high 18 kills off 48 attacks. Mikayla Register added 22 digs, with Sara Rogers finishing with 46 assists. Leading CSU was Addison Kaderli with her 17 kills on the night.

Stat of the Match
PC held the kill advantage, 55-42, but had 14 more errors, 30-16, to finish with a .155 hitting percentage. CSU posted a .190. The Bucs recorded seven aces to PC’s four, with digs in favor of the Blue Hose, 65-59.

Record
PC moves to 2-12 overall and 0-1 in Big South action, while Charleston Southern improves to 6-11 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
