The Presbyterian College volleyball team played Radford tough, with the first and third sets back and forth until the end, but the Highlanders prevailed in three sets Saturday afternoon at Templeton Center in Clinton, S.C. The Blue Hose fell by scores of 25-21, 25-13, and 25-23.

The Blue Hose fall to 3-20 overall and 1-8 in the Big South. Radford improves to 10-12, 3-6. The Blue Hose are on the road next weekend as they take on Charleston Southern Oct. 30, at 7 p.m., and Coastal Carolina Oct. 31, at 2 p.m.

Rachel Elshoff led PC with 14 kills, with Sierra Davis close behind with eight. Sara Rogers added 36 sets, while Mikayla Register posted 13 digs. Megan Short had 14 kills for Radford, while teammate Savanna Burton added 11. Haley Kleespies recorded 40 assists, with Kaylor Nash ending the afternoon with 12 digs.

Radford finished with 46 kills and 12 errors for a .321 hitting percentage. PC had 38 kills and 16 errors and hit .190. Blocks were even at 4.0 apiece.

Radford built a five-point lead on several occasions in the first set, but the Blue Hose found a way to fight back, the last time after the Highlanders led 19-14. PC, behind blocks from Ashton Stewart and Rogers and two kills from Elshoff, cut the margin to one, 18-19. Both teams went back and forth the next two points with Radford taking another one-point, 20-19, lead. Two kills helped the Highlanders take the next three of four points, 23-20, with a PC attack error and service error giving Radford the 25-21 first set win.

Leading by just three, 13-10, early in the second set, Radford jumped on an 8-2 run to take its largest lead of the set at the time, 21-12. An Elshoff kill made it 13-21, but three straight Radford kills and a PC error gave the visitors the 25-13 second set win.

A close set throughout, PC held a 17-14 lead midway of the third set. PC extended the lead to 19-16 before Radford used a 3-0 run to tie the set for the ninth time. Four more ties ensued as both teams battled it out the next several points. Tied for the last time at 23-23, Radford collected a kill from Burton and a service ace from Kleepsies to break through for the 25-23 third set and match win.
