Coastal Carolina used 41 kills, including 13 from Hardeman, to earn the 3-0 win over the Presbyterian College volleyball team in Big South action Saturday afternoon at the Templeton Center in Clinton, S.C. The Chanticleers took the three sets by scores of 25-12, 25-16, and 25-15.
PC drops to 3-12 overall and 1-1 in the league, while CCU improves to 10-4, 2-0. The Blue Hose host Winthrop Oct. 2, in a 7 p.m., match.
Leah Hardeman led CCU with 13 kills, followed by Lian Bernett with 10. Pacing PC were Rachel Elshoff and Ashton Stewart with five kills apiece. Elshoff and Mikayla Register added six digs each, with Carla Cahil in front for Coastal with seven digs. Jaclyn Brewington led in assists for PC with 19, while Sara Booth was tops for CCU with 20.
Coastal led the block total with an 8-4 edge.
A 5-4 lead for Coastal early in the first set turned into an 11-4 margin off a 6-0 run before PC rallied to within five, 12-7, and again at 13-8. CCU scored the next 12 of 16 points to come away with the 25-12 win.
A close second set early, the Blue Hose and Chanticleers were tied 9-9 before CCU scored six of seven to make it 15-10. CCU extended the lead to 23-14 before taking the eventual 25-16 win.
PC opened the third set with an 8-6 lead, but an 8-2 run by Coastal put the Chanticleers ahead 14-10. CCU extended its lead to 20-15, before taking the final five in a row to earn the 25-15 third set and match win.
