Davidson committed just five errors, while adding 32 kills, en route to a 3-0 win over the Presbyterian College volleyball team in Davidson Wildcat Classic action Saturday afternoon in Davidson, N.C. The Wildcats earned the win with scores of 25-18, 25-19, and 25-17.
PC falls to 1-5 and will round out tournament play with Hampton at 4 p.m. Davidson improves to 2-3.
Sierra Davis paced the team offensively with her 13 kills in 29 attacks. She was followed by Rachel Elshoff with her six kills and team-leading 11 digs. Sara Rogers added 25 assists on the match. The Blue Hose collected 30 kills but ended with a .043 hitting percentage after recording 26 errors. PC led the match in service aces with seven, with two coming from Ashton Stewart and Halle Tripp.
Davidson finished with a .342 hitting percentage, including a .409 in set one and a .400 in set three. The Wildcats held the block advantage, 8.0-0. Mason Rooney led with 11 kills and 15 assists. Shannon Morgan paced the squad with 12 digs.
The Wildcats didn’t lead by more than three in the first set until, with the score 20-18, the home team went on a 5-0 run, helped by three PC attack errors, to take the 25-18 win. The second set was very similar to the first with a 19-18 Davidson lead turning into a 24-18 margin off another 5-0 run to give the Wildcats the eventual 25-19 victory.
A tight third set early, PC made it a three-point margin at 17-14, but that would be as close as the team would get as the Wildcats outscored the Blue Hose 8-3 down the stretch to take the 25-17 third set and match win.
