HAMPTON, VA- The Presbyterian College volleyball team beat Hampton 3-2 in the second match of the Tiny Laster Classic held in Hampton, Va. on Saturday night. The Blue Hose took the three sets by scores of 25-23, 25-20, and 15-11 in the fifth set.
PC finished 1-1 in the weekend tourney after losing 3-0 to Georgetown earlier in the day.
Leading the Blue Hose (4-6) was Rachel Hall with 13 kills, Johna Robbins with 10 kills, Mary Trimpe with 17 digs, and Rachel Elshoff with 13 digs. Robbins and Ashtin Frank were named to the All-Tournament Team.
For the Pirates (5-5), Vendula Strakova had 31 kills and 13 digs, Krista Kraskura tallied 10 kills and 14 digs, and Kitija Megne added 13 digs.
Presbyterian and Hampton played evenly in the first match, but PC scored the last two points to take the match 25-23.
The Pirates won the next two sets by scores of 25-14 and 25-18, but the Blue Hose responded with a 25-20 fourth set victory to ensure a final set.
In the fifth set, the Pirates got off to a 3-0 start, but the Blue Hose fought back to tie it up 6-6. PC scored the final three points of the set to win 15-11.
PC will be back in action Thursday, Sept. 18 for the first home game of the season as they hose Furman at 7 p.m. in the Templeton Center.
