The Presbyterian College women’s volleyball team earned the first win of the season with a 3-0 victory against North Carolina Central at the Wake Forest Deacon Invitational on Sept. 5 with scores of 19-25, 14-25, and 17-25.
The Blue Hose (1-3) were paced by Rachel Hall (Roswell, Ga./Roswell H.S.) and Rachel Elshoff (Rochester, Ill./Rochester) who each had 11 kills in the win. PC’s Ashtin Frank (Bloomington, S.C./Woodrull H.S.) had 31 total assists, Ashton Stewart (Hartwell, Ga./Hart County) had four blocks, and Mary Trimpe (Normall Ill./Normal Community H.S.) had 12 digs. Kelly Berryman (Normal, Ill./University H.S.) and Stewart had eight and seven kills, respectively.
The Blue Hose bounced back from a 4-1 setback in the first set to take the lead for the rest of the match and win 25-19.
In the second set, PC led from the start and scored eight unanswered points midway to secure the 25-14 victory.
In the final match, the Eagles scored the first three points before the Blue Hose responded with four straight points to quickly take back the lead. The two teams played evenly, with five tied-scores, until PC broke a 10-10 standoff and never relinquished the lead to win 25-17.
The Blue Hose will face off against Wofford at 5:00 p.m. on Sept. 5 in the next match of the tournament.
