Cann Named Big South Choice Hotels Player of the Week
Presbyterian College's Caroline Cann has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Player of the Week in volleyball, while Jennica Mullins of Winthrop was tabbed the CRONS Brand Freshman of the Week. Rachel Brummitt of Radford picked up Defensive Player of the Week honors for matches played Oct. 31-Nov. 6, the League announced today.
Cann, a sophomore from Landrum, S.C., posted 33 kills, averaged 4.71 kills per set and came up with 32 digs and six blocks to lead Presbyterian College to a 2-0 record last week. She got her week started with 12 kills, a .320 average at the net, 11 digs and two rejections to lead the Blue Hose to a 3-0 win over Gardner-Webb on Nov. 4. The next day against UNC Asheville, the outside hitter found the floor for 21 kills, to go along with 21 digs and four blocks in PC's 3-1 win over the Bulldogs. The honor marks her first Player of the Week nod this season.
Mullins, a middle blocker from Seminole, Fla., recorded 19 kills and 14 blocks to help Winthrop to two Big South wins last week. Against UNC Asheville on Nov. 4, Mullins put away 10 kills and turned away six Bulldog attacks as Winthrop picked up the 3-1 win. The following day vs. Gardner-Webb, she connected on nine kills and chipped in eight blocks in the 3-0 win over the Runnin' Bulldogs. The honor is her second Freshman of the Week plaudit this season.
Brummitt, a freshman from Plano, Texas, recorded 49 digs and 6.12 digs per set in Radford's two League wins last week. She got her week going with 24 digs as Radford defeated High Point, 3-0, on Nov. 4. She followed that effort with 25 digs to help Radford to the 3-2 win over Campbell on Nov. 5. The award marks her fourth Defensive Player of the Week award this season.
