CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men’s tennis team dropped its first conference match of the season on Saturday, falling in a close one at Radford, 4-3, in Radford, Va. PC falls to 13-10 on the season and 5-1 in Big South play, while the Highlanders improve to 5-13, 2-3 in the Big South.

The Blue Hose dropped the doubles point in a conference match for the first time this season. Radford took the first two courts to clinch the point, before Diego Manzanas and Jaime Castillo-Lopez claimed a 6-4 victory on court three.

In singles, the two teams would split the six matches. Castillo-Lopez started the action with 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 to even the match at 1-1. Alejandro Bejar then won his fifth straight match with a 6-2, 6-2 win on court five and Ben Kelley followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win on court four to make it a 3-1 PC lead.

Radford would take the final three matches with the final two decided in three sets. Court one and two went to the Highlanders, making court three the decisive match of the day. Samuel Taylor took set one, 6-4, with Diego Manzanas taking set two, 6-3, with the third set determining the result of the match. Ultimately, Taylor emerged on top, 6-4, in the final set to give RU the 4-3 win.

PC concludes conference play on Monday, hosting Winthrop at 2 p.m. at the Templeton Tennis Courts.
