CONWAY, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men’s tennis team suffered its first conference loss of the season on Sunday, falling at Coastal Carolina, 5-2, in Conway, S.C. PC falls to 3-1 in conference matches, while CCU stayed unbeaten in conference play at 3-0.
The Chanticleers took the doubles point with victories on courts one and two. Pedro Leme and Vuk Velickovic took a 6-2 win at No. 1 and Jabor Al-Mutawa and Sebastian Schneider won 6-4 at No. 2 to clinch the point. PC’s Diego Manzanas and Joel Roberts claimed a 6-3 victory in their first match of the season as a doubles pair.
Coastal Carolina took the match by winning four of the six singles matches, despite PC wins at No. 1 and No. 5. Alexander Lykou claimed his second straight victory at the top of the order, winning 6-2, 6-2. Brandon Mills continued his strong play, winning his third straight match and sixth in his last seven with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 5.
PC fought in three-set matches at No. 3 and No. 4. Danny Bruce dropped a close first set, 7-6, before taking the second, 6-3, at No. 3 to force the decisive third frame. Leme would prevail in the final set, 6-1, to take the match. Manzanas played a close three-set match as well, dropping set one, 6-4, but taking set two, 6-5. Once again, Coastal would take set three, 6-0, as Schneider claimed the match victory.
PC returns to action on Tuesday with a conference match against Radford in the first of a six-match homestand.
