CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men’s tennis team claimed four of the five singles matched played to overtake USC Upstate, 4-2, on a windy Thursday afternoon at the Templeton Tennis Courts in Clinton, S.C.

USC Upstate claimed the doubles point by taking courts one and three in close matches. The Blue Hose combo of Diego Manzanas and Danny Bruce earned a 6-1 win at No. 2 to get it started, before the Spartans evened it with a 6-4 win on No. 3. The match on court one would work its way to a 6-6 tie before Upstate’s Ramon Simonetti and Ankush Arora claimed the tiebreaker to take the match 7-6.

PC would respond in a big way in singles play. Brandon Mills tied the match at 1-1 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 5. Upstate retook the lead with a win on court one but PC went on to take the final three matches of the day.

Ben Kelley earned his team-high seven singles victory of the year with a 7-6, 6-1 win on court six. Alejandro Bejar followed with a 6-1, 7-6 at No. 2 to push PC in front at 3-2. Manzanas then clinched the match with a hard fought, 6-4, 7-6, win on No. 4 to give PC the 4-2 victory.

Danny Bruce dropped the first set on court three, 6-4, but recovered to set two, 6-4. He took the first game of set three but the match went unfinished after the match was decided.

The Blue Hose are back on the courts on Sunday, as they kick off their spring break trip with a doubleheader in Louisiana.
