Clinton, S.C. – The Presbyterian College softball team was upended by Appalachian State on Tuesday afternoon, 4-1. This game was PC’s final non-conference match-up of the regular season. The Blue Hose are now 11-35-2 on the year.
Taylor Ward got the start in the circle for PC in the loss. The freshman allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks while collecting four strikeouts. Ward went the distance against the Mountaineers for her 11th complete game of the campaign. She now holds a 4-15 record.
Courtney White scored the lone run for the Blue Hose in the top of the second inning. She reached base on a dropped fly ball by the right fielder and then advanced to second on a Chelsea Lyons walk. Macy Hyatt then hit a ground ball to short stop who made a throwing error to second base, allowing White to touch home. White also had one of PC’s pair of hits in the ballgame, a single down the left field line in the top of the sixth. Jonnie Petree grabbed PC’s first hit of the contest with an infield single to first base in the third inning.
The Blue Hose will return to action on Friday when they host Campbell for a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is slated for 1:00 p.m. PC will wrap up their series with the Camels on Saturday with a single game beginning at 12:00 p.m.
