Clinton, S.C. – The Presbyterian College softball team was defeated by Charleston Southern on Wednesday afternoon, 8-3. The loss moves the Blue Hose to 10-29-2, 0-12 against Big South opponents.
The Blue Hose offense collected eight hits on the afternoon, spearheaded Courtney White and her 3 hits, including an RBI double in the bottom of the third inning. Including a second double on the afternoon, White continues to lead the team in extra-base hits with 12 (9 2B, 2 HR, 3B). Lindsay Harris launched a two-run home run over the left field wall in the second inning. That was her second big blast of the season, her first coming against Siena in the Madeira Beach Tournament on March 2. Jonnie Petree continued her hit streak to a dozen games with a pair of singles and also swiped a pair of bases on the day. She now has 27 stolen bases on the campaign.
Taylor Ward got the start in the circle for PC and took her tenth loss of the season. She worked 1+ innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits. She was relieved by Alyssa Batastini who pitched the next 3.1 innings and gave up four runs on seven hits. Sarah Ramsbottom collected the final eight outs of the game, her longest appearance of the season. She allowed only three baserunners (two walks and one hit) and did not give up any runs.
The Blue Hose will return to action next Tuesday when they begin a three-game set at Winthrop. PC will take on the Eagles in a doubleheader beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday and then will wrap up the series with a single game on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m.
