Clinton, S.C. – The Presbyterian College softball team dropped both of their games to Charleston Southern on Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Hose were upended 7-0 in the first contest and then lost a heartbreaker in game two, 1-0. PC is now 10-25-2 on the season, 0-8 in Big South play.
Taylor Ward did not allow an earned run in her complete game outing in the second contest of the day. The lone run of the game came in the second inning off of a pair of errors. The freshman collected six punch-outs and allowed only a pair of hits and a pair of walks to the Bucs in the loss. Ward now holds a 4.60 ERA on the season and has a 4-7 record.
Jonnie Petree led the Blue Hose with a two base knocks against CSU in game two. The senior also reached base on a walk and swiped three bases in the game. Ansley Wilbanks also collected a hit, while Courtney White began the bottom of the seventh inning with a pinch-hit double of the center field wall. Chelsea Lyons also picked up a pair of stolen bases after reaching on a walk and a hit by pitch.
Alyssa Batastini took the loss for PC in the first game of the afternoon. The redshirt junior allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits and three walks in 5.1 innings of work. She was relieved by White, who gave up a pair of runs on four hits in the final 1.2 innings. Batastini is now 6-17 on the year.
The Blue Hose will return to action this weekend when they travel to Radford this weekend for a Big South series. PC will play a doubleheader against the Highlanders on Saturday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m. The series will conclude with a single game on Sunday, also slated to start at 1:00 p.m.
