Christina Biggerstaff struck out 11 in a five-inning perfect game, to lead the USC Upstate Spartans to the 9-0 win in five innings over the Presbyterian College softball team in action Tuesday evening at Cyrill Stadium in Spartanburg, S.C.
A pitching and defensive game the first three and a half innings, USC Upstate opened the bottom of the fourth with a single by Logan Morris. A fielder’s choice advanced pinch runner Makenna Helton to second, with a walk advancing her to third and loading the bases. A single by Kendsey Chappelear scored the first run, with a Kayla Hussey sacrifice hit brining in the second. After a walked loaded the bases again, A RBI single from Kristen White and a PC error cleared the bases, with back-to-back-to-back home runs by Karla Beasley, Morris, and Megan Obier propelling the Spartans to the 9-0 lead. Christina Biggerstaff completed her perfect game, retiring the three PC batters in order in the top of the fifth to end the game with the eight-run rule.

Kaylee Allen (0-6) went 3.2 innings in the start, surrendering eight runs off eight hits. Christina Biggerstaff (5-0), pitched the full five innings, striking out 11, while allowing no hits and no runs. Kendsey Chappelear, Logan Morris, and Ansley Gilstrap each posted two hits for USC Upstate, with Megan Obier leading in runs scored with two.

The Blue Hose are next in action Mar. 2-4, as they travel to Jacksonville, Fla., to take part in the Osprey Classic/Jacksonville Invitational. PC faces Middle Tennessee State and UNF on Friday at 1 p.m., and 3:30 p.m., before taking on Virginia Tech and Jacksonville at 12 p.m., and 5 p.m., Saturday. The Blue Hose round out tournament play against Middle Tennessee State again Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
